Introduction to Donghong Red-Fleshed Kiwifruit Vine
Red-fleshed Kiwifruit Vine 'Chuhong' is a medium-sized fruit with an average weight of 65-75 g (maximum weight 112 g). The fruit is uniform and generally long cylindrical with a slightly protruding or round stylar end and green-brown skin. The fruit flesh is golden-yellow with red radiation around the seeds. The fruit's texture is tender, and its taste is fine, juicy, sweet, and aromatic.
Nutritional Information
Red-fleshed Kiwifruit Vine 'Chuhong' contains 15.6%-20.7% soluble solids, 17.8%-22.4% dry matter, 10.8%-13.1% total sugars, 1.1%-1.5% total acids, and 1,130-1,600 mg·kg-1 of vitamin C per fresh weight.
Growth and Development
The fruit development period of Donghong is 140 days, and it starts to bloom in mid-April and matures in early September. The percentage of bud germination, shoot forming, and fruiting cane is 71.8%, 100%, and 88%, respectively. Flowers are on the third tonight of the fruiting shoots, predominantly singly or inflorescences of 3 flowers.
Disease Resistance and Shelf Life
Donghong has good resistance to soft rot, and better performance under bacterial canker of kiwifruit, heat, and drought. The fruit has a long shelf life and can be stored for up to 1-2 months at ambient temperatures and 5-6 months in cool storage. After softening to eating ripeness, it can last for 15-20 days at room temperature and 3-4 months in cool storage.
Cultivation and Yield
Donghong is a fruit that yields stable and precociously, with grafted plants bearing fruit as early as the second year and producing up to 1,000 kg per 666.7 m2 at the fourth year after grafting. It thrives in sub-acidic, fertile soil with ample moisture, and can be grown using the pergola and T-bar systems with a planting density of 2 m × 4 m or 3 m × 4 m. The plant should have a single trunk, two permanent leaders, and multiple side branches. For optimal growth, the recommended pollenizer is Moshan male No. 2 and Moshan male No. 1, at a planting ratio of female: male 5-8∶1.

Specifically, it is best grown in regions with sub-acidic, fertile soil and adequate moisture conditions. In terms of latitude, it is recommended to grow Donghong between 26°N and 33°N.
As for Red-Fleshed Kiwifruit 'Chuhong,' it is recommended to be grown in regions with climates similar to Changsha, China, where the best harvest time is from late August to mid-September, and the fruit's soluble solids content is in the rapid growth period. Specifically, it is best grown in regions with sub-acidic, fertile soil and adequate moisture conditions. In terms of latitude, it is recommended to grow Chuhong between 26°N and 33°N.
